History

As a professional dancer, choreographer and director in the field of dance and theatre, Leigh Brewer is well qualified to depict the world of ballet and dance, capturing the fleeting moment in the permanent beauty of bronze.

In 1998 a sell-out exhibition established Brewer as a solo artist in this art form at the Queens Wharf Centre, Wellington, titled 'Cousin, Cousin'. Sir Jon Trimmer, a potter and cousin, was guest artist.

In April 2000 she opened her own gallery 'Galerie de Brewer'. A great space that was both workshop and showroom. A near sell-out of her work at the special guest preview opened by the mayor, including guest artists Trimmer and John Marshall, Calligrapher.

In 2001 'Share our Passions' exhibition heralded another successful showing of bronzes, this time titled 'Icons' with Australian painter Glenn McDean. Leigh took an overseas sabbatical in 2001 to Paris, Athens and London and is currently looking to set up another intimate gallery in Wellington.

In the Queen's Birthday Honours List in 2001, Leigh was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit, O.N.Z.M, for her services to Ballet and Theatre.
